They might be nipping each other, but they could be catching their fins on something--do you have plastic plants? Sometimes they can tear fins--mostly on bettas, but it could happen. Clean water and time is the best bet--but most important is removing the fish from whatever is hurting the fish. Otherwise it will just keep getting torn!
