Default Mini fiddler crabs

My son thinks we should get some of these, we have an empty 10g and a Whisper internal filter. The tank will only have 4-5 gallons of water, I'm going to use three pieces of tufa rock to build up a land area and maybe get a piece of drift wood, too. And a few fake plants.

Questions;

What temp do they need? Do I need to get a heater?

When I buy a hood do I need flour. or incan. light, or does it matter?

How many in a 10g?

Could we put in a few WhiteClouds or would they end up crab food?

I've had no experience with these, but for question #2, I wouldn't think it would matter. Incans. produce more heat, but I wouldn't think it'd be a problem.

since they are bracish... i dont think that white clouds would work that is unless they can tolerate the salt... id set up a beach like thing in a 10gal tank, with sand sloping from the bottom to the surface and pileing above the surface so they can make tunnels, then some plants that go from the bottom of the tank to the surface,
i think that they will be fine in the 5gal so long as they can reach the surface (without escaping), but you would see more interesting behavior if you could get them some dry land to tunnel in

The tank just needs a hood and crabs. Here's a few pics.

I had them a couple times and they always died fairly quickly. After finding the forums I found out why. Of course the LFS failed to mention that they are brackish and need to get above the waterline. I hate knowing I killed something bc of ignorance. Thats why these forums are priceless.

Nice setup Bret !

Sorry I can't answer any of your questions...I've never had fiddler crabs. As far as fish in with them, not sure how that would work, but if the crabs would leave the fish alone, you might try some bumblebee gobies...but, then you'd have to find a way to filter the water or do alot of water changes....

Be sure to post some more when you get the crabs !

Thanks, Emg.
I'll try to get some pics of the crabs, but they are very skittish.
We have 4 in there now, but might add a few more.

There is a cut-down Whisper internal filter under/behind the fake plants. It has a small bag of Bio-Max, it's there mostly for water movement.

The incan. lights keep the sides from fogging up.

I don't think there is enough water for fish. If something happens and the crabs all die, we might just use it for mollies or sumptin'.

very nice looking, and i noticed the little beach that you had put in, just remember that in the wild they burrow in mud, so if your after tunnels you might want to use sand instead of gravel, but so far it looks great, please post pics soon!
