Practice makes perfect. Fish are a challenge to get good pics, as they seldom stay still for long.

Yup. OhGee is very wise. I love trying to get good pics of my fish - and I only have a few good ones to show for all the trying.

Before I had a tripod, I used to an ironing board and stack books on it to get the camera to the hight I wanted. Worked reasonably well. I would guess that most people only keep about 5% of the pictures they actually take.

Is that Jack really that blue? Its amazing!

Nice attempts, very nice set of fish.

Did you use the flash? Light is the key. Fish wont stop moving so you have to stop them with high shutter and much light.

I don't think pictures of fish look as good with the flash.

You have to situate the flash in the right place. Either bounce it up, away from the fish or have one that is detachable that you can place on top of the tank.

Flash angled and photo cropped:

Flash on top of the tank:

Yes he is, my girlfriends little sister wanted a rabbit and when her mom shot her down she got a fish instead. His name is Patrick (Dempsy) she has the HAWTS for him.

I think the fish is sexier, and Patrick is actually alot brighter in person. I'll try and get a picture of him with the gravel behind him, its like camoflauge he blends right in. It probably the most amazing EBJD I have ever laid my eyes on and I'm proud to house him. He was 70 dollars but worth it IMO, he is beautiful

Thanks, Rich. I need to master the F-stops, though. I really don't know squat about photography. Gary Lange has been trying to teach me, but I'm a photo-dunce.

John:

If you can put your camera in manual focus, do so. Focus the lens on the eye, move back to get the whole fish and then *wait* for the shot. Make sure you hold the camera steady.

Rainbowfish are one of the hardest to photograph because they are always moving.

I'm still trying to figure out the inner workings of my camera. Its a fairly inexpensive digital camera so I don't think it has a manual focus or a shutter speed selection. The manual for it is absoutley horrible, but I'm trying to figure it out

Great job johnpeezy!

I can't photograph an overgrown overweight pleco without blur, let alone a fish that moves
