Default koi classification and judging

so is there a standard to the naming conventions or is it just use whatever descriptors best identify your fish? has anyone here entered any of those contests i read about online?

There are different rules for naming koi, but I don't know what they are.

Look up backyardpuddle.com, very nice folks, and they have a shop selling koi and related items. But alas they're in Canada. I've know Terri and Ian for quite a few years now and find them to be very knowlegable in ponds and koi raising.

These are the basic varieties - standards - of Koi Koi Varieties {haven't looked at that page in a long while - needs some updating and better pictures}

Google "koi varieties", many koi sites have photo's that represent most varieties of koi available.
