I wouldn't house the two pairs together, GK. I've seen breeders keep single pairs in 25's, 30 talls and 40 breeders. Hopefully Ike will add his experienced advice and point you to the best.

Pet Smart "and I use that term with some trepedition" has a 37 gallon tank for sale with a glass cover and light for less than $100. It has the same footprint as a 29 gallon but is six inches taller. I think that wold be a very nice tank for a single pair of discus. Seems to me that two of them might just be about perfect for two pairs and a fairly reasonable price to boot.

All my breeders are kept 29s. Ive seen them in 20s but a little crowded. Just getting restarted breeding after hospital stay. Working on spotted line from Roy Khoo and Discus Kc and another from Gulfcoastdiscus. Only ten months old and about 6" to 7.
