Default Aquarium lighting issue Odyssea 45G Bow Front

I got this tank a good year and a half ago and there is something wrong with the electrical. Unfortunately I can't find any info on replacement parts for the aquarium lighting. Its not a issue with the bulbs because I have switched them out. Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix this? I can't go to Petco or Petsmart or any other store to get a replacement fixture that I am aware of. Here is a link to what the aquarium looks like. http://www.thehobbypalace.com/catalo...sea45black.jpg

Any advice is very appreciated. Thanks

Its hard to say what is wrong with out really being able to get in there and look at things.

Are the bulbs normal bulbs or compacts?

Is the problem that the bulbs don't turn on at all? My first guess would be to make sure that the wiring is intact. It is possible that someone may have stepped on the cord or something while moving it and it broke the wires or a connection. Also check the wiring from the ballast to the bulbs.

If the wiring looks ok, I would make sure that the starter works, or is in place (if it needs a starter). They look this.

If that dosen't fix any of the problems, then its probably the ballast.

Thanks for your response...my brother fooled with the wiring that was attached to the power switch and amazingly got it to work for a split second... than he showed me what he did and he got shocked when he showed me and now we can't get it back on again. He thinks that the bulbs blew when he got shocked (I don't really think so) So I guess its probably some how the connection of wires to the power button. Problem for me is that I am not really good with electrical stuff (At all!) Is there any other sort of lighting system I can buy to attach to my tank? Thanks

My original response was being typed when you made the above post. Replacement fixtures can usually be ordered for you by your lfs.

Sounds like either a bad switch or some bad wiring at the switch. Like Wes said don't fool around with it if your not comfortable. Especially not with it plugged in, like your brother did.

Don't mess with it if your not comfortable it, thats just asking for disaster. The bulbs probably aren't blown, there isn't much to blow in them.

If you can find someone who is knows what they are doing, it would be much cheaper to get them fix. I have personally never heard of the brand, so I don't know if its possible to even find that type, but there should be some sort of suitable replacement that is available somewhere.

Default I have same Tank, same age, and same problem

I have an Odyssea B45 and I'm having the same issue. The lights stopped working and I can't find parts, so our only option may be to junk these light and replace with a better brand. I'm using my aquarium for saltwater, so the evaporating saltwater may have corroded some wiring

I've modified my aquarium top, replacing the filter that came with the tank and using a big canister filter that sits under the aquarium. I liked the top completely covering the aquarium, but I guess I'll have to live without it.

If you've found a place for parts, let me know.

Default Lighting problems

I have been looking on the forum and have found that other people, besides me have problems with their lighting. I have an Odyssea bow front 20g. My dad is an electrician and he said the the relay inside was bad. I was wondering if anyone knew where to get replacement parts or if I should get a whole new lighting unit.

I don't know about replacement parts specifically for odessa lighting systems, but if the relay is a standard type of relay, all you need to do is find one with the same specs. If you need help determining that, if you can take a picture of the relay with any of the numbers on it, and post the picture here.
