Default tanks in dry storage

How long can a tank stay in dry storage before the the silicone needs to be replaced?

That's a good question. I wonder what perfecto or all-glass would say? I would say if you use it in your lifetime, it's good, provided the tank was made post 1990. 1990 is an arbitrary date. My thought is if it's a relatively new tank, it should withstand storage for as long as you care to store it...before you decide you're just not going to use it and sell it No, no scientific data or info to back this up.
I'd be interested if there is a concrete answer...other than "when it leaks".

The 100% silicone I used to seal my tank comes with a 50 year guarantee so I would say it should last quite a while. Silicone does not degrade under UV and will not dry out and crack for many years. If it does end up leaking after the storage period is over, it is not a difficult task to reseal a tank. As long as it is not stored in an extremely hot location you shouldn't have an issue.

I store tanks for months to years. always dry.

If they did not leak when stored, they do not when they come out - but I do test for several days every time.

Sadly, the stored leakers do not recover either.
