I've never heard of those snails or shrimp. Are those aquatic?

They are apple snails.

Marisa is frequently available at my LFS in suburban/exurban MD - which are served by the same N.VA distributors as serve N. Va, so they should not be rare, Referred to as the giant Ramshorn snail commonly due to the flat spiral..

Asolene is the more conventional Apple snail configuration, but often with similar dark stripes to those on Marisa. It is uncommon around here, not often seen.

Ask your LFS about availability. I don't know about the chains, I don't shop those.

Yeah, I was just thinking that - VA is a very big state.

You really should fill in your location and if you looked below my avatar, you'd see I was in Herndon

Okay, so you're in NOVA. I don't go to any LFS for fish and stuff, anymore, Kets, but you can call any of the places listed at PVAS (Potomac Valley Aquarium Society):

I lived in Falls Church for 11 years. Two of my favorite fish stores were Super Pets at the corner of John Marr Drive and Little River Turnpike and Wally's Aquarium which was a little farther down LRT toward Alexandria. The people that work there are quite helpful and smart.
Good luck!

Most of the owners of the stores on the list I gave to Kets are members of PVAS. You're more likely to get better stock at those places anyhow.

Ok, Ive been to The Cozy Clownfish, Cordis Fish and Pet Supplies, and Wally's Aquarium. None of those stores had a Marisa/Asolene. I guess I'll be trying Foxmill's Pets and Vienna Aquarium & Pets.

Why doesnt Vienna's Aquarium & Pets have an address?

Foxmill won't have them, Vienna might. I suggest you phone the places and ask before you drive there. I don't know why there's no address, I didn't create the site. Should be in the phone book or do a search on Google.

The places in MD, Tropical Fish World and Scales, have better stocking. TFW also has a very cool 700g tank with a huge arrowana in it.

Apparantly, Vienna's aquarium and pets says they might have Marisas in the summer.

As an aside, do not keep A. spixi and Marisas together..they can crossbreed and apparently the offspring are voracious plant eaters. I know its very difficult to get permits for shipping spixis for just that reason.
