first, here is the story for the filter going on this tank. http://aquariumboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3900

and here are some pictures of the tank.

believe me the stand and hood would have turned out a LOT better if i'd had acess to proper power tools instead of just a rusty old hand saw and a miter box.

also, when attempting to wire ANYTHING, always, always, always make sure that the positive and negative wires are NOT TOUCHING AT ALL. i had cut and stripped my wires for the lights and then made sure i had all three black, and all three white together. however i hadn't split the wires far enough and when i taped them all together, the positive and negative were still touching slightly at the base where the exposed wires were. when i went to plug it in, my computer, the TV, and all the lights shut off. i pulled it away and the outlet was slightly browned and the plugin had a tiny melted spot on it. it all still works once i got the wiring figure out, and nobody died, but it could have been very bad.

Looks good--where will you put the filter? Will it sit under the tank in the stand?

If I couldn't refrence size from smaller objects in the pictures, you coudl have claimed it was a 55 gallon tank and I would have believed it lol.

The wood work looks better than mine. I have a dremmel tool, handy little thing for about 100 bucks.

the filter will just sit beside it, until i can find a better place than my kitchen table for the tank. and the filter finally works, now that i used some 2-part plastic welding epoxy to seal the cord.

Meant to add this earlier--you may want to paint the exterior of the canister. Light is not friendly to the bacteria, which is why most filters are not made with clear materials.

yeah, once i'm confident that its working well, i will paint the outside, but i need to be able to see the water level inside it to make sure its not leaking right now.

a little teaser. i got it all planted, but i turned the filter on while the water level was still too low and it kicked up a bunch of sand in one corner.
