Thought you might want an idea of what he'll look like as he gets older.
These are my 2, the bigger one I received about 3 months before the other but was already a couple of inches long. The smaller one was tiny tiny when I got him. Had to keep him in a tank by himself for 3 or 4 months till I felt he was big enough. He is about 8 months old. ![]()

The bigger one is a year old, well to me, and is about 6 inches and the smaller one is about 3/3.5 inches. Its hard to get accurate measurements. But the smaller one was only about an inch long when I got him.
The bigger one isn't picky at all about food while the smaller one won't eat flakes but will most anything else I do feed the tank. The big one is a hog though .

i got sid in the middle of June and he was about an inch from petsmart. so i've had him about 8 months and he's only about 2.25 inches. he didn't seem to be growing very much when i first got him, perhaps because i was just feeding him frozen brine shrimp? when i switched him to my homemade food with tilapia, calamari, shrimp, mahi-mahi, steamed broccoli, and vitamins, he started growing a lot more, he doubled in size when i started feeding him that. now i'm feeding him that and blackworms and i'm breeding guppies that i will gut load and feed to him.

I feed mine flakes, frozen bloodworms, krill, shrimp pellets, cichlid sticks, cichlid food sticks, redworms and tubifex worms. Like I said the little one pretty much ignores the flakes but the big one eats anything. I also have Convict fry I feed them.Soon I'll have enough guppies to feed them also, I'm not seperating them from the other tank so natural process is going on,some get eaten by parents and the betta. Once a month I do buy some rosy reds for them also.

he's in a 10 right now, with weekly 25% water changes and no tank mates, but he's got a 45 waiting for him once i get a filter for it.

I know he is still small but being a carnivore they put out a lot of waste. The 10 gallon could be to small for him. Its possible that you'll see a growth spurt once the 45 is setup.
