Well. You get what you pay for. The center brace on the frame of my "free" 37 gallon snapped. I heard it. It was loud enough that I thought that something had fallen off my desk and unto the floor. The front glass was bowing out a little more, so I replaced the tank. I got a 56 gallon so that I could transfer the filter and light strip quickly and easily. I took the contents of the 37 gallon and a 15 gallon and combined them. Now that it is all done I am delighted. And pooped. All the inhabitants seem pleased.
Please forgive the aquascape - or lack thereof. I just threw all the plants in there to get it done. I will redo it soon. The only casualty was the big anubias. It got a bit dried out. Oops....![]() Rasboras Het and Espei, Diamond tetras, Rummynose tetras, 2 albino cories, 3 Julii cories, 5 otos, male betta (Bela) and female betta (Elizabeth), 7 mystery snails, cherry shrimp.

Well. Each and every time I start to think that I know what I am doing, that is exactly the time that something goes terribly wrong. Ack. I woke up, looked over at the new 56 and noticed that every fish, shrimp and snail was up at the surface gasping for air. I moved the spraybar and lowered the water level to get more surface agitation. I tested the water and the Ammonia is 0, the Nitrates are 20 and the Nitrite level was raised. I didn't sit long enough to see how high it was because I ran for the bucket and started to do a massive water change. (60 to 75%) I added more gravel from the cycled 15 gallon that I am in the process of taking down and added the HOB filter from that tank, too.
Yesterday I had added the first dose of plant ferts and Excel. Poor fish! They look better now. Adding to the problem, my dad took a turn for the worse. I think it has to do with some new meds. Ack. ![]()

They look OK for the most part. I did lose one Rummynose. I am assuming that since they are the most fragile, I expect to lose more as time goes on and the result of the raised nitrite level shows up. I am going to test the water again later and probably do another wc if need be.
Dad is a little better this afternoon as well. Yay!
