I saw one today that looked somewhat like that--but a bit more metallic sheen. If I had a tank...I'd have bought it.

THIS is my betta rack......

I had over 200 of the little darlings...there were even MORE over on the table and that tank to the right is full of female betta fry......the first time I ever tried breeding fish...and I have to choose bettas ! ... NEVER....NEVER.......NEVER again !

however.....I certainly DID learn an awful lot during those six months raising them....

There was one betta I got that was listed as a female, but its fins grew, so I was afraid to buy a "real" female, in case the other was a male. Are females' fins really really short?

I once purchased a "female" betta that turned out to be a male short fin betta. He was a fantastic little fella with a beautiful blue color. I found out he was male when I put him in with two other females.

The difference I saw between him and the other females were the size of his pelvic fins....they were much longer than the female's.

Female's fins are shorter than the males. I wouldn't say that they're "really really" short......but definitely not long and flowing like the males.

female betta

This is that male shortfin that I had.....#1-his coloring was VERY bright and pretty...females just about never look that good. #2-take a look at the pelvic fins....those skinny fins that hang down under the gills....they're quite a bit longer than the female's.
