I'm here for the food
|
I have a small bowl (about a quart) that is currently empty except for some java moss growing on a small piece of driftwood. I would appreciate any suggestions/ comments you may have of fish to put in there. The space is just enough for a fully grown male betta. This bowl has no lid nor heater and is a Marineland Betta Sphere in case anyone wants to know. The fish listed above in the poll are just ideas i have thought of so far and would like any input on other fish that would be compatible in this evironment. Thanks for your suggestions.

I'd Vote snail as well, IF you do not have a filter daily large (75% or more) water changes are needed to protect your fish. this can be done, but Would detract fromt he entertainment value in my mind.
Cherry shrimp are pretty sensative to ammonia (Otherwise tough enough) so it would be hard to keep them as well. A snail will is not bothered by ammonia or nitrites, and you would be amazed just how interesting a snail can be. dave

How about turning it into a pico planted tank? Maybe not as easy to set up as a plain betta tank, but loads of fun and much nicer to look at IMO - find small-leaved and/or slow-growing plants, make the most aesthetically appealing layout you can, and ta-da! Instant conversation piece, no fish necessary. Add a few ramshorn and Malayan trumpet snails to keep algae down and gravel/sand stirred and you're done
![]() Here's a (side) picture of my 1g pico just to give you an idea, it was up and running for about a year before I gave it away. I fertilized the plants twice a week and used a 13W PC desk lamp, it was very easy to care for. ![]() |

Unfortunately for beatta's the folks who made Beatta bowls were marketing experts not fish keepers. They are quite possibly the single most abused species of fish in our hobby.
