Goldfish are happiest in ponds, I think. As long as the herons aren't hungry.

I replaced the gravel in my 180 today. Not a chore for the meek of heart. The MTS were annoying me.

I now have aquascapers remorse. My tank looks bare and ugly. Yes, I know it will fill in quickly. But still...

Awww... Sorry, Bud. I know exactly how you feel. All my tanks look bare and ugly at the moment. Except the algae is pearling.

Today at the farmer's market they had four largish goldfish in a teeny gallon or so bowl. I was agast, as this is a hippie preppy sort of market, and this was shockingly out of place. I told them that they were some pretty big fish for such a small bowl, and they said "they aren't that big." It is true that goldfish DO get LOTS bigger, but still, they didn't have room to turn around in. They said they weren't raised in the bowl, but it still irked me. My room mate asked me what they were there for and I told her it was to promote cruelty to animals--though there didn't actually appear to be a reason, maybe decoration or to sale meat.

It's pond season. People are stocking their ponds with any kind of goldfish.

I remember way back three months ago when I joined this forum I had one 14 gallon tank that I started all wrong, and had no idea what the heck I was doing. three months have passed and I have wound up with 7 tanks established and fully functional. (bacteria seeding...lots and lots of seeding)

What
have
you
all
done?

oh yeah and I'm out of room, need another tank again. AND I think I wound up getting a job at a tropical fish store.

Lol......

Don't get all confused about the lighting...it can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. On my reef all I have is a 36in 197watt dual bulb coralife fixture with an actinic bulb and a 10,000K in it. Very simple and works fine for the coral that I have. I won't be doing any high light stony coral in there however, which is fine by me.

After you get settled with the fw tanks John....might want to try giving a salty tank a shot.....

I've got a mini problem; my bb gobies and my betta are in the same tank. The gobies like to chomp at the betta's tail sometimes. Do you think I should just make sure the gobies are fed? I'd hate to throw the betta back in the 5 gallon (he's in a 10 gallon), especially since the 5 gets dirty pretty fast.

I would move the betta to the 5. It shouldn't dirty that quickly. I have a betta in a 2.5 and it doesn't get bad at all.

Nice fish, Rallysman!

Thanks for the advice about the betta. You don't think he'll get lonely? I always felt sorry for his being all alone. Especially since the only place the 5 could go is in an area of the house that doesn't get much traffic during the day. Ooh! What about some non-fish tank mates?

I don't think the betta will get lonely. If it makes you feel better, keep the 5 next to the other tank so the betta can see the other fish.
