It won't harm the fish.

Uck. I just pulled a plant out of my 30 that was called "foxtail." I think it should have been called "dust mop" or "aquatic feather duster." Yeesh, it always looked dirty, but at least it was an ugly color.... Got another aponogeton... crispus (I think) to replace it.

I hate Tiger Barbs and wish I could eradicate them without tearing apart this tank...

I have a neon tetra that has had a stuck out lower lip ever since I got it. Any ideas on what it could be? The fish also breathes more often than the others do.

Pouting ??

I went and bought a couple of kois today.....haha.....goldfish, who'd a thought !

I actually bought them for my violin teacher...she's such a nice lady and she has this big lovely pond in her backyard.....all she can afford to purchase for it is 15 cent feeder fish....so I thought I would get her a couple nice ones...

A regular shabunkin and a butterfly koi.....

oO{Wish I had a pond.....}

Sylvia, the tetra could have been injured.....if that's the case, not much you can do except to keep the water nice and clean. That may also help the 'breathing' issue somewhat. If all your parameters are checking out ok...and the other fish aren't showing any signs of issues, it could just be that this fish is a weaker fish for one reason or another and more easily stressed. Is it recently purchased ?

No, I've had it for a while. It does seem a little weaker than the others. Thankfully they aren't picking on it.

I worked at the Houston Aquarium Society's summer auction yesterday. Man, there's a lot to do at one of those. I brought home some nice julidochromis marlieri, some albino cories and some albino bushy nose plecos. I sold 22 plants...made about 75 bucks, enough to pay for the trip, lunch and my new fish.

I picked up 5 more otos last week. I only have one oto in my 30 gallon at the moment. I started out with 4 about 3 years ago but now I'm down to 1. I had 2 but I lost one with my co2 overdose a couple months back. So I figured my lone oto would like some company. They are in a 5gallon quarintine tank and I haven't lost one yet. They all look really healthy and they are playing a schooling all over the tank. So much for finicky otos!

In other news, the BF's blue crayfish died this weekend. I'm not sure how long they normally live for but I feel like he's had her for a long time. He was bummed but now that mean we have an empty tank. I think I am going to bring that tank to my parents in NJ and bring my 30 gallon tank with my Cichlids down to DE. My parents have been bugging me to get that tank out of their house! My mom will be happy.

Changed out my 5.5 betta tank for a 15 tall. The 15 was just sitting empty, so I thought.. why not. Betta is loving all the room.

I am doing the waterchange/hair algae removal on my 125 now. Just waiting for the water to drain takes forever! ::Jeopardy Theme Plays::

I think the reason they name Koi after things like comets and butterfly. Is because of the fact that these fish semm to think they can fly. Man I had to net about 6 butterfly Koi out of the 4"-6" in pond at the store and those suckers were flipping around all over the place. This was only my second time netting Koi and I really thionk I would have faired better if I had played wide reciver with a water bucket while my customer tried to net them.

Man those things can jump.

Yup, they sure do. I use a much bigger net.
I looked up comets once and, if I remember correctly, the reason they are called that is because of the shape of their tails.
Aren't they just gorgeous?
