Default Library Fish Issue

So today I went to scope out the Library I will be interviewing for a job tomorrow, and square on top of the reference desk they had a 10g fish tank with a mystery snail and a very large fancy goldie.

The goldie had to be six inches or more, and had a nasty red growth/gash on his head. They told me that they'd been told to put some tea-tree oil directly on the sore, and that they were really rigorous at doing once weekly water changes of 10%. I suggested that they might try 50% water changes daily or every other day while the fish had the sore on its head until it was healed, and then move it to either a larger tank or a pond. She said she had a pond, but all the other goldies they'd had for the tank had never gotten this big.

Arg, my mom says that I should not mention the fish until I get the job or get turned down for the job, but it is a sad, sad condition.

What can I suggest they do to treat the sore?

That's a tough one. Clean water like you already suggested would probably do way more than the tea tree oil.

Oh, and CONGATS! on the interview!

If you have already suggested the waterchanges, I would wait until you do or don't get the job as well to prod further. Perhaps you could bring in an unused tank? If you push too hard, it might stop you from getting the job. And CONGRATS!

I would tell them to put the goldie in the pond and replace it with some male fancy guppies. Or WhiteClouds.

I wouldn't push the issue right now either. A few more days really isn't going to make a difference to the fish as far as the size of the aquarium.

Get the job, Then fix the fish situation. I'm in agreement with your Mom on this one.

Here's the deal Dave, how bout you go stage a rescue on the fish--I bet if you and John go in to the library together you could grab the fish and run.

Don't worry about it. Yet. Job's far more important.

I'll wait until you are working there, then com e in and berate you for keeping that poor fish in those deplorable conditions . It's been many many years since I stole anything from a library, not sure I can go back to those days even for a fish.

So I had the interview--it went pretty well, though I have the feeling they are looking for a very specific thing that I may not be the canadate for. I went in all excited about programing, and working with kids, and it turns out they just want someone to sit at the desk four hours a day.

She said she still had another week of interviews, so I'll know in a week. I still have hopes that I might get the job, but I don't know who I am competeing against.

The fish looked even sadder today then it did yesterday--she said she was going to get it antibiotic food--I should have told her to go easy on the food, as it will keep the tank cleaner.

The mental image of John and Dave kidnapping a fish is much better than the imagery of berating sarc.

I sort of find both ideas entertaining, maybe we could do one and then the other. It would be particularly amuzing to hear John Scolding someone loudly with that awesome accent of his.
