Default Question about Fish Food Brands

I have to order a new light for my 38g--the old one overheated and melted or something--ick--anyway I wanted to get some new food for the fish. I'm having a hard time finding another fish food that I like. Right now I mostly feed some OSI staple pellets, but I'd like to have a second staple and some not frozen treats.
I bought some Hikari pellets, but they are too big for Louie--he needs something bigger then the OSI pellets but smaller then the small hikari. He swallows the big pellets and out they come, again and again, the small pellets he keeps down no problem, but he is so big that he darts around to grab them like catching snowflakes he doesn't get very many before the piggie loaches take it all.

So any brands and suggestions for types?

Actually, just for entertainment value I like TetraMin tropical crisps. They look like little cookies. I love to drop some in the Diamond/Rummynose tetra tank and watch them grab a cookie and frantically swim away with it.

Cheap entertainment for the easily amused... me.

You can find processed foods (like pellets, crumbles, etc...) in a wide range of sizes here at Kens Fish:
Kens Fish Home of Quality Fish Food, And Supplies At Excellent Prices.

He puts out good food at great prices. I recommend it highly.

I don't know about the pellets, but as far as non-frozen treats, my fish didn't care for freeze dried tubafex worms or freeze dried krill. They loved the tetra microcrabs. They are small red slow sinking granules.

My favorite pellet fish food would be Omega1. The ingredients on the package tell the story.

The only Omega1 type I have used of there are the algae wafers, but I buy them for the same reason, good ingredients. First thing on the list is algae, not corn, soy or fishmeal.

This is one of my staples, works for small to large fish, has good nutritive value esp. for Tetra. Second staple is Omega foods; like Levi says, the ingredients say it all; I even emailed them, good guys, and go all into how they use fresh catch, and fish in a conscientious manner. The Tetra color crumbles/granules are also a fave, but a bit expensive for all my fish!

Tetra, Omega are quality foods. Hikari uses primarily corn. If the diet is varied the health of the fish is always better. Feeding any one thing all the time will lead to deficiencies. I feed Omega flake, Tetra flake, tetra bits, Frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms, algae wafers and fresh veggies and greens. My fish also get a home-made frozen beef heart/veggie/fish/shrimp/vitamin mix.

Oh, and I forgot. I also like Tetrafauna "ReptoTreat" for a very special treat. It is bloodworns in a vitamin gel. That particular food seems to work especially well on ADFs.

I'll 2nd Kensfish.com for food. It's VERY cheap and incredibly high quality stuff. It's almost all I give my fish, besides some frozen stuff I get locally.

I use the super soft HBH krill and spirlina pellets, also wardleys floating cichlid pellets, ocean nutrition spirlina flake (soon to be replaced by Kens 100% spirlina flake), and umm tetra jumbo sticks... but they are REALLY messy they seem to break apart fast and crumble everywhere, on the + side everyone likes the jumbo sticks and the bigger fish usualy get to them break them apart then the little ones move in and swallow up the crumbs

And a third. I just ordered almost 25 lbs of various foods, my fish are loving it.

I'm sure it's not just me but every time I order from Ken's they throw in a small bag of some other food. I got a bag of Betta pellets one time but I don't have a Betta. Most recently I got a bag of some staple flakes that my hatchets eat. Maybe I'm just losing it and ordered this stuff without paying attention.

No, when I ordered they threw in a small bag of "oscar show" pellets or something. Enough for maybe a week or so. I was like, "yep, he eats it. big surprise." Its a good way to increase awareness of different products with existing customers though.
