Default ok so the hard part was done for me

So I have aquired a pair of jewel cichlids and (had) 17 of there fry all about 2" long. After I removed the fry from the tank the parents are REALLY skiddish, I can't even walk in the same room as the tank with out them panicing. There in a temporary 10 gallon hopital tank until I get there home prepared. No substrate, sponge filter, aquaclear 150, and flowerpots. Do you think its the cramped quarters, or empty nest syndrome that is causing this behavior.

Also is there anything you reccomend doing that would help them curb this behavior like runnign with no lights or something?

Probably a combination of empty nest and unfamiliar territory. It is usually recommended to leave a part of the batch with the parents to prevent psychotic behavior especially if the fish are hard to replace. You are doing well that the two fish are not taking it out on each other since the young all disappeared.

Do you think covering the glass would help or just prolong there acclimation? also should I stick them in the 20 gallon ASAP, or should I let them hang out in the 10 until they settle down alittle bit?

I let the tank go over night W/O doing anything to it I did cover one side of the tank with a towel and this morning there still huddled in the same corner. I tried to coax them out with some frozen brine shrimp but they didn't go for it. I guess I have to wait it out
