Default Took the pleco plunge

Well over the weekend I bought myslef a bristlenose pleco (albino one). My final remaining otto cat died on Friday after a year and a half in my tank of eat algae (though not to a level I noticed). I thought the pleco would be a better algae eating guy for my tank as I have lots to deal with. He is just a young fella right now at maybe 3/4 of an inch long but he has been chomping steady since Saturday.

I do have driftwood in the tank and I have seen my BN on the driftwood but I can't remember if driftwood is a part of their diet or not?

Congrats, they are great little plecos. I believe they will graze on driftwood.

Yes, driftwood is critical for bristlenose. Mine were always all over the driftwood. I prefer to use mopani, or another hard wood in tanks with BN for that reason--otherwise you end up cleaning up wood chips.

The driftwood I have has been in there for 4 years now and was found in a local lake. It was hard wood but I don't know the type (I suppose I could ID it as I have the setup at work). It is starting to get soft now so I may just head out and buy a bigger piece of mopani.

So far I have only seen him on it once. He is a very busy little bristlenose pleco.

They're more active when they're young.

Indeed.

Well he is only a few months old, so hopefully he will be active for a bit.

I used to have a huge rare pleco tank...lots of them.

I suggest supplementing there diet ..the wood does provide some of there diet they need.

I would suggest putting in cucumber (of course remove the seeds) even Squash

Dont leave it in too long due to fogging of water... but your bristle will love the food.

I used cucumbers for mine> I put it in before lights out...by morning I had just skin left =)

the B/N pleco might be a meat eater as well, I know my gold nugget pleco is. I usually feed him (in addition to the bog wood of course).
steamed yams, blood worms, brine shrimp, spirluna brine shrimp, krill, plankton, mysis shrimp, cucumber, zucchini, HBH veggie wafers, Wardleys algae pellets, and Hikari algae discs.

brine shrimp and blood worms are his favroite, that and the duck weed floating on the top of my tank

I know most people think of it as a plague, but there is no need to resort to such vulgar language, sheesh.

We all make typos around here, and when they are good ones, someone will point it out. I am sure most of us have had typos thrown back at us.
