Hi... Me again...
![]() I am going to buy a quarantine tank to put my new fish in since the last batch of 4 died within a week, but left behind some Ich and killed 13 of my fish and leave ONE SURVIVOR!!! SO, i am taking all the good advice and buying a quarantine tank... But, I'm not sure how to set it up. i have read to use the same water from my main tank, but if i may have ICH left over, that would not be good, right? ANy advise will help... Also, is it ok to use table salt to treat ick in my main tank? i have read both table and aquarium salt are ok... |

The whole point of a quarantine tank is to have a totally isolated system. Don't use water from your main tank in the QT tank. Other than that, its basically just setup up like a regular small tank. Most people don't have any decorations in their QT tank to make it easier to monitor and net their fish.

Hi,
Thanks for all the great info!! I am going to buy a QT immediately... Trixie, How long ago did you get the tank for $12? I've been looking on line and can't find anything less than $50 (with filter and stuff) and that is for a 5 gallon tank... Thanks!! |

Dela-where?

For my quarantine tank I have used a 10 gallon that I bought without any "extras" for about $20 at the local fish store. I don't have gravel in it and I use a sponge filter which hooks up to an air pump. I like using the sponge filter because it is gentler and fish in a q-tank might be weak or sick and the suction on a regular filter may be too much for them.

Petland Discounts is a chain of pet stores. The one I went to is in Central NJ. They had a 10 gallon "starter" kit with a tank (no top), a box filter with media, an air pump for the box filter, a bag of white gravel, some pink and purple plastic plants and I can't remember if there was a heater or not. I looked on their website and they didn't have that kit. Maybe it is just for people that walk into the store. The price for a kit with a hood is $30.

The only thing my aqarintie tank(attempt number 4) has in it is a sponge filter that funs off of an air stone, a heater, and a lid(attempts 1 thru 3 all have fish in them now...).
I use mine as a QT tank/ growout tank which *knock on wood* I hope I don't have to use for two diffrent things at once |

HI... After looking on-line (to try and order) I actually have a Petland Discount in my town and never even realized it was there!!!
So, i just went there and they had the starter kit Trixie mentions and it was $14.88!!! $28 with the hood... Thank you so much for the info... (FYI: this is a walk-in special... no packaging, but it's put together by the store itself...). I also loved all the fish they had there, so i think i will go back there... No more Petco or LFS... :/ |

Yes... I got one shocking pink and purple pink plant and one red and orange one!! I am excited to buy some fish this weekend... I did feel the fish looked good and healthy at Petland Discount... And they had a nice variety... Now, i need to figure out what to get for my hardy blue gourami. Not only did he survive the ICK breakout of 4th of July , but he survived a NASTY blue gourami that i previously had who stressed all my other fish to death... Until i finally bought him back to the LFS... All his fins were nipped away and he wasn't eating... But, now he is completely healthy (though can be a bit bullying at times... in a playful way...)!! Thanks for everyone's help!! I'm new to this all, but I thoroughly enjoy it... |
