Nice. Are you sure it was the PO4? Green water thrives on ammonia.

yeah ammonia is at zero.

ammonia was the first thing i checked for.

Well, truthfully, ammonia levels won't really be high, even if that is what's feeding the algae bloom. The problem is that ammonia is only detectable when the levels exceed what the algae and bacteria can consume...So the amount being produced could be higher than normal and still not show up.

thats true but didnt have the algea bloom until i added the phos-soda.

didnt have ammonia before the algea either so....

going to skip hard scaping in my tank for a while.

yeah nothing in the tank was using the pot so it was just taking up good plant growing room.

well the tanks out of operation.

its down for replanning. still having trouble with algea.

im think substrate and not having any fast growth plants has something to do with it.

gravel just doesnt work well for crypts the crypts i have in sand grow roughly twice as fast as the ones in the gravel.(gravel tank-injected co2 and ferts dosed, sand-no co2 or ferts just fish waste)

for substrate im thinking soilmaster select red or charcoal?? and as for a fast grower im thinking a shorter val species??

i want to keep the barclaya, crypt wendtii "tropica" and "green gecko", also the crypt parva.

P.S. what small algea eater options do i have?

heres the tank now, with SMS red in it(its more reddish gray but the pic looks gray) and i used peat humus(was told this should be safe with minimal water chemistry changes, and will help fertilize like a soil). i picked up a rubberlip pleco to go in the tank once it settles down.

Wow, thats actually nice looking substrate you have there. I hope that your plants will take off in that stuff

not to good.

having a hard time with some of the plants floating, substrates super light. and green water came back after a couple of weeks, so im switching the lighting out from a 65w pc 6700k for 2x20w 9325k bulbs, so will see if that does anything.

Your tank is way to lightly planted to do what is needed to prevent as much algae. Once established crypts can be enough, but that is after they have spread and you have 25 or more in there. I suggest a hygrophila species to use until your other plants get some numbers on them.

just got my second batch of babies last batch was in mid september i had one female drop 12. now one dropped 20 something babies.

its still weird to see baby fish with a embilical cord.
