Balloon molly

I just set up a freshwater aquarium and today my balloon molly that I loved died! it seemed fine yesterday but this morning it was swirling around and around for about half an hour and then sank to the bottom! It didnt look like there was anything physically wrong so now Im worried about the rest of my fish if it was something in the tank that killed it!

I had to remove 3 serpae tetras yesterday because they nipped the tails of all my neons and one died as a result, could the serpaes have nipped the molly? it seems unlikely since the molly was much bigger!

You just set up the tank, so did you cycle it?

Tell us exactly what your tank setup is and how long you have had it and if possible what your water parameters are (pH, Nitrates, Ammonia, Temp, Nitrite etc...).

Em well Im one of the newbies who was told by the guy I bought the tank from that setting it up involved cycling it for 2 days and then putting some fish in it! now ive realised ive totally messed up!

my tank is 54Litres, the temp is 27degrees (79 farenheit), nitrite levels seem ok but I dont have a ph or ammonia detector so dont know these! the rest of the fish seem fine! Im doing 10% water changes everyday or second day. ive had the tank a week and a half now

Did you wash the gravel? I don't think the serpaes did that.

An ammonia, nitrite and nitrate tests are very important to have, espically when the tank is new. 10% water changes might not be enough. When did my first tank, I fishy cycled too, and had to do 50% water changes almost everyday, and that was with a tank 2 times bigger, and with only 2 small fish in it. If you are changing water using buckets, I would suggest getting a hose that you can fill directly from a sink. It makes things much quicker and easier.

Also it is fine to just feed everyother day for awhile. The fish will do fine and will produce less waste.
