I am not sure about guppys and mosquito fish being able to crossbreed. However, If you are looking for male mosquitofish, I suggest you talk to your local game and fish. They normally will give out bucketfuls of gambusia affinis to help control mosquito populations. I'm sure that they would be willing to give you some.

They won't cross breed, though any male guppies might try. You may also have females that could be fertilized and have young as they could be storeing sperm. That could give the apearance that they did cross breed but wouldn't be the case. I would caution that many gambusia species are quite agressive fish especially to their own kind. You will need a larger tank for them if you get a breeding colony started somehow.

You find gambusia in pond stores and water garden centers, maybe.

Along with goldfish and koi they are kept a lot in the pond hobby for bug control.

I collect mine from the wild.

thanks for the help guys.

my male guppy isnt interested in the females at all, he likes the silver mollies though. i had to seperate the females, they are pretty aggresive toward each other.

so now im going to ask fish and game about them, since this is the first time ive ever seen them in a store around here.

These guys will not breed but if they do cross, you will get mules, sterile fish.
You will need a nice big tank for them and lots of plants for them to hide. But not all Gambusia are ugly, you can find Gambusia Holbrooki and the males are very pretty. But only 1 out of a hundred looks like this.
