from what I have found out about the collonista snails, is that they hitch in on the rock and multiply like wild fire, depending on the algea available. That sounds pretty good if ya ask me. I think I might do something like that also. Unless some one knows more about these than what I have found.

I wanted to let you know the life of compacts is 6 months on the powders inside. Eventually they become regular bulbs.. and old bulbs are known to hit spectrums of light that encourage Cyanobacteria (red slime) a evil monster. =p

The addition of your clean up crew is great. Your source of an outbreak is nutrients in the water. Your tests will be WRONG. Why...the algae is eating up the things you are measuring for..its going to show false readings due to the algae eating it..in reality your tank has the high amounts you are not seeing on tests.

API Algae fix for marine does help. But beware when that hair algae dies it will introduce more DOC to the water. I would try to scrub what you can out. Or you may have Red Slime break out "Bacteria Algae hybrid from hell" you dont want that =)

Cleaners:
Slug ..My buddy I bought I just love him...he was on that hair algae like white on rice...next day half the algae on the rock was gone..(Pig slug).

I stumbled across info on Scooter Blenny to. They like to chomp on hair algae and pods. But they are meant for established tanks with pods ..long term they need those lil bugs. Cousin of the Mandrin
