There are some at the LFS now, I'll check tomorrow.

The SAPs at the LFS are half-grown and have good color, they are $12 each or 2/$20.

There is another Colomesus species (there are only two in that genus), which is much larger, BW-SW (inshore and bay area feeder called Colomesus psittacus with which it gets confused, but to me they are not very similar. The other is much larger, BW at least, and up to a foot long, versus the ~3" for the SAP, Colomesus asellus. The scientific specimen for the SAP responsible for the inaccurate sizes commonly given for the smaller fish is apparently the larger species - but nobody has officially re-examined it and published on it. SAPs are really FW.

The other species is much less seen in the trade and so usually carries a higher price.

He is either mistaken or confused - the other Colomesus is BW, SAPs are FW.

I talked to the other owner today and he will look up a price during the week. He knew more about puffers. I do not want to have to order one online.

If your LFS can get you one for a fair price then go for it. You've been really patient about this and I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Are there any tankmates sutiable for an SAP in a 20? or should I just keep him alone?

the guy at the LFS went to check with his distributor. I will see him on sunday so thats when ill find out how much it will cost.

I am still trying to decide whether I want to set up another tank, especially since I will be going to college next fall.
